General introduction

In 1961, the Planning Specialist Group of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Hanoi University of Science and Technology was established. This department is the predecessor of the current Hanoi University of Civil Engineering. The first planning class was separated from the construction class of the third course, taught by the first teachers of the specialized group, namely Mr. Truong Quang Thao, Mr. Nguyen Phung Vo, and Mr. Le Ba Phong. In August 1962, the specialized group was supplemented with 6 young teaching staff who had just graduated from the first planning class. They are Mr. Lâm Quang Cường, Trần Hữu Uyên, Lê Xuân Thọ, Bùi Văn Sương, Vũ Hải, and Ngô Văn Sức.

In 1967, the architecture class of the specialized group was incorporated into the University of Civil Engineering. Since its establishment, the specialized group has continuously developed, with about 50 teachers currently working in the department, including 2 People's Teachers, 3 Professors and Doctors of Science, 10 Associate Professors, and 3 Distinguished Teachers. Many teachers have been assigned to training schools, design institutes, and management agencies in various localities across the country.

The department teaches subjects such as Regional Planning, Urban Master Planning, Suburban Planning, Detailed Planning, Urban Design, Rural Planning, Landscape Design, Sociology, Urban Transportation, Urban Infrastructure Engineering, and various large and small projects on Planning and Architecture to serve the training fields of Construction Architects, Planning Architects, and high-quality Urban Engineers.

The expert group has built a large infrastructure such as lectures, documents, textbooks, specialized books, scientific research projects, Master's theses, and Doctoral dissertations...

In recent years, the expert group has closely and effectively collaborated with various departments, agencies, and individuals in scientific research, practical applications, and in undergraduate and postgraduate training.

Achievement

The expert group and individuals have received numerous commendations from the Government, the Ministry of Education and Training, various provinces and cities, and the University. International awards in Architecture and Urban Planning were given to Architect Nguyễn Luận (Rural Housing – Ecological Balance Unit 1980), and Architect Trần Văn Khôm won first prize for his project on emergency housing for disaster-stricken areas in Madrid in 1975. Associate Professor Dr. Phạm Hùng Cường has received numerous awards for urban planning, including awards from the Vietnam Association of Architects and the Vietnam Urban Development Planning Association. Dr. Lê Quỳnh Chi received the Honorary Cup for Urban Development Career.
