HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT
Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE) was established under Decision No. 144/CP dated August 8, 1966, issued by the Council of Ministers, originating from the Faculty of Civil Engineering of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
On August 13, 2021, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 1396/QĐ-TTg approving the renaming of the National University of Civil Engineering to Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, with its headquarters located in Hanoi.

Founded during wartime, the University was required to evacuate from Hanoi and operate in various locations across Ha Bac and Vinh Phu provinces. By the end of 1983, the University returned to Hanoi; however, its facilities remained dispersed across four sites: Co Nhue, Phuc Xa, Bach Khoa, and Dong Tam. It was not until 1991 that the University was fully consolidated at Dong Tam Ward, Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi (now Bach Mai Ward, Hanoi). In 2014, the University invested in the development of an experimental training campus in Ha Nam, covering an area of over 24 hectares.
Over more than 65 years of education and 55 years of establishment and development, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering has grown into a multidisciplinary university and a center for research and the application of scientific and technological advancements. The University provides education and training from undergraduate to doctoral levels in the field of construction and related disciplines. In response to national development demands and in line with the Party and Government’s policy on comprehensive reform of education and training, the University is committed to developing a dynamic and creative workforce of engineers and architects capable of addressing practical challenges, contributing to national development and progressively integrating into the regional and global landscape.
As of June 2025, the University employs a total of 878 staff members, including 627 lecturers, 4 teaching assistants, 163 administrative staff, 39 laboratory and practical instructors, and 45 contractual employees under Decree 115. The full-time academic staff includes 76 Professors and Associate Professors, 284 staff members holding doctoral degrees or higher, and 341 with master’s degrees.
Currently, the University offers 49 undergraduate programs, 19 master’s programs, and 19 doctoral programs. To date, it has educated more than 85,000 engineers and architects, over 1,000 bachelor graduates, nearly 7,900 master’s degree holders, and 286 doctoral graduates (as of June 2025), while also undertaking numerous scientific research projects, major initiatives, and technology transfer activities.
The University’s alumni have made significant contributions across various sectors. Many hold key leadership positions within Party and government agencies at both central and local levels, as well as in economic groups, corporations, and enterprises. A number of alumni have been honored with the prestigious title of National Hero.
