General introduction

Proud to be one of the first specialized groups established by the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Science and Technology, the predecessor of the later Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, the specialized group in Civil Architecture has always played an important role in training the Architecture major in particular and training architects in general at the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning.

When mentioning the Civil Architecture Professional Group, one cannot forget the late Professor Nguyen Sanh Dan – the first head of the Professional Group and also the first rector of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering. From the five pioneering teachers – Mr. Nguyễn Sanh Dan, Mr. Phạm Ngọc Đăng, Mr. Hoàng Huy Thắng, Mr. Nguyễn Đức Thiêm, and Mr. Lê Kiều, over more than 60 years of development, the Civil Architecture Professional Group has today become a large house, where 25 staff members are diligently working and contributing. Throughout its operational history, the specialized group has always played a leading role in the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning, taking on the teaching of many key projects and theoretical subjects. It has been vibrant with diverse activities, ranging from practical practice to scientific research, participating in international workshops, major competitions, and publishing numerous prestigious works both domestically and internationally. The cultural, sports, and artistic activities of the Faculty and the School bear the strong imprint of the professional group.

In any circumstance, especially in the context of deep integration and cooperation today, the professional group always identifies people as the most valuable asset, creating all favorable and democratic conditions for each member to contribute and maximize their potential. Building on the legacies of previous generations, the professional group proactively experiments with innovative research and teaching methods, boldly "trial and error," and pioneers new insights. The teaching environment is a personality, diverse yet united, respectful, and affectionate – that will always be the foundational strength, the unchanging internal force of the professional group in all periods.

The goal of the Civil Architecture Expert Group is to contribute to the creation of an internationally recognized training model, not only thru degrees, academic titles, or awards of the lecturers but also thru a vision and mindset materialized into creative, practical, and effective plans and programs that align with global trends. The good relationships and collaborations with many universities, international partners, outstanding lectures, curricula, scientific research, and practical creations, as well as the successful generations of students who have taken on significant responsibilities in the industry and society—these are the clearest evidence of the continuous development efforts of the Professional Group over the years, proudly contributing to the overall brand of the Faculty and School.
